Benefits

Messiah University provides an excellent benefits package for all active employees who are regularly scheduled to work 1560 hours or more per year or teach 12 credit hours or more per semester. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work between 1000 and 1559 hours per year are eligible for a pro-rated benefits package. You are eligible for coverage the first of the month following or coincident with your date of hire. There is no exclusion for pre-existing conditions if you are timely enrollee. You are not enrolled until you attend a benefit orientation and submit your enrollment forms to Human Resources.

Messiah University provides a voluntary retirement plan through The Standard to help employees prepare for retirement through contributions to a 403(b). The amount Messiah contributes to the plan is based on the employees' contributions as follows:

The Standard provides two education/enrollment tools for employees' use as well: Your Retirement Plan and Planning Tools and Calculators.

The Department of Labor has an online retirement toolkit to help employees identify key issues related to retirement planning. This toolkit goes beyond the retirement plan and discusses topics like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Messiah offers three types of educational benefits to employees.

 

Educational Assistance:

A two-tiered tuition reduction benefit program is available to employees to support the undergraduate education of their dependents. The program provides financial support for:

  • students attending Messiah University
  • students attending any other two- and four-year accredited colleges and universities.

Employee Development:

Messiah University recognizes the mutual benefits employees derive from personal growth and career growth and therefore, provides assistance to its staff and administrative employees interested in furthering their formal educational or training.

 

Graduate Aid:

Messiah University recognizes the mutual benefits employees derive from personal growth and career growth. This program has been designed to financially assist employees who show potential for expanded responsibilities or advancement and wish to enroll into a post baccalaureate program of study. At total of 15 employees may participate in the graduate aid program at one time.

 

Staff and administrative employees accrue vacation and sick leave based on the number of hours they are scheduled to work as well as their length of service. For more information, see the Benefits Overview or the Human Resources Employment Policies.

 

Paid Sick Time Up to 10 days (80 hours) per fiscal year with full pay, accrued
Paid Vacation Time Varies based on employee type, years of service and regularly-scheduled hours
Paid Personal Time Up to 2 days (16 hours) per fiscal year with full pay. Unused hours do not accrue.

Messiah University is pleased to offer this program through Unum to all benefits-eligible employees and their families. The EAP provides help in accessing the care and resources you need. They offer counseling and support for mental and emotional health; tools for tough times; services and resources to navigate family dynamics; financial and legal advice and tools; and work-life resources.

Campus Store Discount: All employees receive a 10% discount on purchases from in-stock inventory in the Campus Store. Certain items are not eligible for this discount.
